Hi @BaluKG,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your keyboard!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
That sounds unusual! If your keyboard is typing double letters, there could be a few things causing it. Let’s figure this out together.
Could you share more details? Does this happen with all keys or just specific ones? And is it consistent or random? Let me know, and we’ll get to the bottom of it!
The more details you provide on the issue the better we can assist you.

Thank you for the response.
It seems like you're experiencing a keyboard input issue, where the first letter (and possibly others) is being doubled when you type in your password. Here's a troubleshooting guide to resolve this issue:
Check Keyboard Settings for Sticky Keys
Sometimes, Sticky Keys or other accessibility features may cause unintended key presses.
- Press Win + U to open the Ease of Access settings.
- Scroll down and select Keyboard.
- Make sure Sticky Keys and Filter Keys are turned off.
- Test typing again after turning these off.
Update Keyboard Drivers
Outdated or corrupted keyboard drivers can cause erratic behavior like this.
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section, right-click on your keyboard device, and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.
- Restart your PC and check if the issue persists.
Check for Keyboard Input Settings
Make sure the input settings are correct for your region and language.
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Go to Time & Language > Language & Region.
- Ensure the correct keyboard layout is selected (e.g., English (US)).
- If needed, click Add a language and set the correct keyboard layout.
- Restart your PC to apply the changes.
Clean the Keyboard
Dust or debris under the keys may cause multiple keystrokes. You can try:
- Turning off the laptop and gently shaking it to remove any loose debris.
- Using compressed air to clean between the keys.
- Cleaning the keyboard with a microfiber cloth.

Test with an External Keyboard
If the issue only occurs with your built-in keyboard, try connecting an external keyboard to see if the problem persists.
- If the external keyboard works without issues, it's likely a problem with the built-in keyboard itself.
- If the issue is present on both, it could be software related.
Reset Keyboard Settings
You can try to reset your keyboard settings by removing and reinstalling the device.
- Open Device Manager again.
- Right-click on your keyboard under the Keyboards section and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your PC. The keyboard should reinstall automatically.
Perform System Restore
If the issue started recently, performing a system restore might help.
- Type System Restore in the Start menu and select Create a restore point.
- In the System Properties window, click on System Restore.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a previous point before the issue started.
After trying these steps, let me know if the issue is resolved, or if you're still facing problems, we can look into more advanced troubleshooting!
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
