Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi i upgraded the HP Pavilion 17-e037cl 17.3" Laptop Computer, AMD A8-5550M, 6GB Memory, 750GB Hard Drive model# E9G77UA from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and now the keyboard isn't working properly on both laptops.. on one the caps lock is stuck in capital letters, and on the other a number of keys dont work. ive updated several drivers, the amd gpu/center, chipset, by overwriting the previous drivers, but have yet to update all the drivers, including the bios.. im kinda scared of doing it, not knowing whats stable and what isn't. Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks.

Have you installed the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI utility to run the keyboard component test? See the hyperlink below.

Have you tried, just for troubleshooting, connecting a USB keyboard to see if the keys are working.

The way you have written your explanation is confusing. You discuss having two notebooks but not with clarity.

You can update drivers without any issue. The only thing that could be risky is the BIOS and it is firmware, not a driver.

Here is a link to the Windows 10 (64-bit) driver download portal for your notebook. Try the detect and let the web document install drivers for you.

hi thanks for the reply. To clarify, its two of the same HP Pavilion 17 E9G77UA laptop, once i upgraded both laptops to Windows 10 from 8.1 the keyboards stopped working properly, where one has certain keys not working like n, -, b etc, the other has it stuck with all caps.  i attempted to follow the diagnostic steps to the point where it says to uninstall the keyboard drivers in device manager, but now they wont reinstall from the SW folder, they dont come up in windows updates and i dont see them on the drivers page.. what can i do at this point? Thanks.

EDIT- after several reboots the keyboard drivers loaded on the first laptop im testing it with. i did the test after updating to the latest hp diagnostic and it failed. 23 keys wouldnt register. i can get all keys to work via an the windows on screen keyboard. What would you say is the next step? Kinda weird the keyboards crap out only after i upgrade to windows 10 no?

OK.

Would you mind running the keyboard component diagnostic again and providing the complete error code?

Otherwise, you have me at a disadvantage.

Are you able to get all keys to work when a USB keyboard is plugged in?  That was one of the troubleshooting steps that I requested earlier.

If you don't provide results of troubleshooting steps, I really can't assist you accurately. I would rather not guess.

You can reinstall the drivers by right  clicking in the Device Manager after uninstalling the keyboard device and selecting scan for new hardware.

ok, where do i find the error code and how do send it to you? the sister got the wrong keyboard, a bluetooth one for a non bluetooth laptop so ive yet to test that. i can get them all to work via an on screen keyboard if that helps. Yea i did that but it took several reboots for device manager to actually install them for some reason. Appreciate the assistance.

Hi ok she acquired a logitech keyboard and yes all the keys work through the usb/bluetooth wireless keyboard just as it does with the on screen software keyboard. its just the physical keyboard that still has keys that dont work. The other laptops keyboard started working again. im wondering if its because there was a loose screw inside this one laptop that caused the keys to stop working? Not sure how to explain why the other stopped working. Maybe because i used the tweaking.com app on both  to fix windows updates..? i just did a clean install of windows 10 on new ssd hard drives on both laptops last night but the one laptops keyboard is still not working, where certain keys dont work, so it cant be a software issue im guessing. Any suggestions? i acquired 2 replacement keyboard parts but wish to hear back from you on what you suggest. Kinda scared to do the repair if it comes to that, especially if it requires taking off the screen or messing with the adhesive.

*Bump*. Hi, are you still there? If not, can anyone help?

Hi, you still there? Would you be kind to help me with this? Do you know of a video that shows how to disassemble the laptop to replace the keyboard? Would greatly appreciate yours or anyone's assistance.
