HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef2000 (771X2AV)

So the problem started like a month ago everytime i play a game or sometimes work a bit my keyboard stops working. I did all hardware dia test and it didnt show any problem. The keyboard starts working after resar though but like I cant always keep on restarting it. So I wonder what might be the problem and is it fixiable.

Hi @Mariam27,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Spectre x360 14-ef2000 is experiencing intermittent keyboard failure during gaming or heavy workloads, which resolves after a restart. Since hardware diagnostics passed, this is likely a software, thermal, or firmware-related issue.

1. Update BIOS and Drivers

2. Disable USB Selective Suspend

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings.
  • Expand USB settings > USB selective suspend setting → Set to Disabled.

3. Check for Background Services

  • Use Task Manager or Autoruns to check for any third-party services that might interfere with input devices during high load.

4. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

  • Restart and press Esc, then F2.
  • Run the Keyboard Test and System Extensive Test to rule out thermal or embedded controller issues.

5. Try Clean Boot

  • Boot with only essential Microsoft services:
    • Press Win + R, type msconfig, go to Services, check Hide Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
    • Restart and test under load.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
