I have the Pavilion dv6 laptop. For years I have been using it without the battery because it got so crazy hot, I literally thought it would damage components inside the base of it. I have always used it plugged in as a result. I bought it in Switzerland and am now in the States. I never looked into it because I assumed that because I didn't have a receipt for the care package warranty from there with me when I moved, etc., nobody could help me. This is usually the case-pass the buck. So just this week a friend saw that I was plugging it in all the time, every time I turned it on. I explained it was burning, even too hot to place on a wood or tile surface for operation and just plugged it in. He said to just get a new one, so I went onto this site to look for one and my laptop came up on the list of laptops with a dysfunctional battery, that they were recalled if there was a fire issue or heat issue with them. While it did also say that not all the models have defective batteries, it does however state that those models can have defective batteries from over heating and causing fires, and that a massive recall had been put out. I do not watch TV, and I had no forwarding address after leaving Switzerland, so I could not have known. The only reason I found out was because I was persuaded to replace it and found I am among thousands of this particular model's users that can have a defective battery, and I do.
So I enter all the information and verify my model is on the list, and it is, so I go forward to order a new one. The next window says my battery is fine and I can continue using my laptop. Really? Hmmm.... how does it know that, as it is removed!
So suddenly I do not fulfill the requirements (fire-hot battery) for the recall battery to be replaced by HP. If not, what does? A fire?
HELP
(and thanks!)

I do realize HP may not see fit to replace my burning crazy battery. I have looked on this site for it, but they do not stock it. At. All. So............... I go on amazon and ppl are saying that although the battery there 'is' labeled 484170-001 for HP Spare Battery, that it is too small and does not fit, or if it does on some of them, that it does not hold a charge or the computer does not recognize the battery. Oh vey.
If you do happen to know where I can purchase a new strong replacement battery, please just message here on this board. The whole idea of replacing the battery is to free myself of the power cable everywhere I go, not be constantly worried about the longevity of the battery. Seems to be of cross-purposes.
Thanks in advance!
