HP Pavilion x360 - 13-u108na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have sent my HP laptop for repair and requested a HDD replacement as the current drive has failed.

unexpected error, BSOD, cannot load windows, short DST check failed, restore recovery failed, reset failed etc

My instructions to the shop were: do not reset, do not reformat, will attempt data retrieval at a later stage, just replace the HDD and return my old drive back.

I'd like to know, what do technicians generally do for these kind of repairs, do they just replace the HDD once they see that the HDD is failing?

or will they be looking at my data/files as well, data recovery is a separate service that i did not request, but i understand that one can connect a SATA to USB cable to the faulty drive and check the data.

Is there a reason to look at the data in the faulty drive when performing a HDD replacement?

Basically i'd like to know if the tech will just do the replacement job and not snoop around, respect data protection and privacy.
