Hp OmniX

Laptop was working fine. Then out of nowhere crashed. Had to reboot from usb and factory reset because it would not let me recover or repair on blue screen.  Now when I charge my laptop it is getting really hot on the left side. I hear the fan running on the right but not left and right side is cool but left feels concerningly hot when charging.

Hi @Sunrise8799,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out and providing the details. I understand your concern, especially since the notebook was working normally before the unexpected crash, and you're now noticing excessive heat on the left side while it's charging.

Let's start with a few checks to help determine whether this is related to the BIOS, airflow, or the cooling hardware.

1. Perform a BIOS Recovery

  • Connect the AC adapter to the notebook.
  • Press and hold the Windows + B keys.
  • While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release only the Power button.
  • Continue holding the Windows + B keys for another 20–30 seconds and check if the BIOS Recovery screen appears. If it does, complete the recovery by following the on-screen instructions.

2. Check the Air Vents

  • Inspect the air intake and exhaust vents to ensure they are not blocked by dust, lint, or any other debris.
  • If needed, gently clean the vents using compressed air.
  • When charging or using the notebook, place it on a hard, flat surface to allow proper airflow.

3. Check the BIOS Version
Please let me know which BIOS version is currently installed on your notebook.

  • Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter.
  • In the System Information window, look for BIOS Version/Date and share that information with me.

4. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
If the notebook continues to become unusually hot after completing the steps above, please run the hardware diagnostics to verify that the cooling fan is operating correctly.

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Turn it back on and immediately tap the Esc key repeatedly.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Go to Component Tests and run the Fan Test.
  • Please let me know the result, including any failure ID if one is reported.

Once you've completed these steps, share the BIOS version and the results of the fan test. That will help determine whether the behavior is related to the cooling system, BIOS, or another hardware component, and we'll guide you with the next appropriate steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
