Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

HP Pavilion 15z-aw000 CTO (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Earlier today when I went to plug my charger into my laptop I had notice that my laptop wasn't charging when I checked the battery icon. I have gone onto the device manager, click on the triangle next to the batteries device to expand it,and right-clicked on the devices that are revealed and selected to uninstall for each of the following devices: Microsoft AC adapters and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method  Battery. After doing that I restarted my laptop, and found that my laptop still says the same thing about being plugged in and not charging. (I have had this issue before with the laptop battery saying plugged and not charging, but was resolved the first time when I uninstalled Microsoft AC adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method  Battery, and then restarted the laptop)

I have also done the diagnostic on the battery, and came back  saying that the battery was ok. I have also made sure to check my charger itself to make sure that wasn't any problems with the wires and found nothing wrong with it.  I'm hoping that there is some other solution to the problem that I'm having.

Other Details about my laptop:

  • HP Pavilion 15z-aw000 CTO (ENERGY STAR).
  • Laptop warranty is expired.
  • Laptop was purchased back in October 2016.
  • Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
  • Battery is internal (not one that I can remove/pop out).

Thank you in advance for any help or solutions that may be recommended.

Does the battery charge while shut down? If so could indicate power adapter is no longer providing enough power to charge and run laptop at same time.

Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and look for Component tests. Do you see one for power adapter?

Hello thank you for responding so fast! So when I went to shut down my laptop to see if it would charge while off, it showed the red light indicating that it was charging. When I went to go turn my laptop back on I held down the esc key and did the AC power adapter test it said the result were that it passed. I noticed that after finishing that test and exiting out of that, that when I signed back into my laptop that my laptop was now charging and the battery indicator no longer said plugged in and not charging.  So I guess for now my laptop is charging, but if the problem continues to happen would you recommend buying a new charger or what?

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it! :HeartEyes:

@KLA95

You're very welcome. Yes,if the problem returns and you can't get by with charging only when shut down I would look at getting a new charger.

It wouldn't hurt to check battery in F2 Diagnostics as well.
