Common problems for Battery

HP Notebook - 15-bw035nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have  a 5 year old notebook and the battery stopped charging. It works fine when plugged in, but when I click on the battery icon in the system tray, it shows "0% - Not charging". I tested the battery via HP Support Assistant and it reported that the battery failed and needed to be replaced. I ordered a replacement battery and installed it. After starting up the laptop with the new battery, the power icon in the system tray still showed "0% - Not charging". But when I tested it in Support Assistant, it showed the battery was fine but needed to be properly calibrated. I left the battery charging for about a day, but when I tested it again in Support Assistant, it failed again and said the battery needs to be replaced.

What else could be causing this? What else can I check for? If any specific info is needed, just let me know and I'll happily reply with it. Thank you in advance. 😊

Hi @GTifeld

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing battery-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

May I know from where did you purchase the battery of your system?

I would suggest you please update all the drivers of your system using the HP Support Assistant.

Also, test and calibrate the battery of your system. Here is a link that will help: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2268927-1713329-16

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your response and my apologies for the delay in getting back to you, but I wanted to make sure I had checked everything thoroughly.

I'm not sure exactly when the problem began, but I noticed it a few weeks ago. No major hardware changes have been made to the laptop and the only software changes have been the usualy routine Windows & HP updates. All the latest updates have been applied. I even did a full system recovery of Windows 10 and have not reinstalled any of the otehr programs or apps yet.

I ran the HP diagnostics on the laptop. All the components tested successfullly except for the power. When I ran the battery test, it failee. I"m attaching a picture of the error that appeared on the screen. As I said earlier, this is a brand new battery. Please let me know if you are unable to view it or need any other information. Thank you in advance.

Regards,
