Laptop does not close completely when lid is lowered

My laptop does not close completely when I lower the lid. There is a gap at the upper right corner. I can eliminate the gap (i.e., achieve complete closure) by squeezing the upper right corner.

Forcing the lid closed might result in a catastrophic break of the hinge assembly.

Avoid the urge to close the system when it will not do so.

Warped case - underlying causes vary --

For Example,

The mentioned hinge assembly might be failing / torqued and causing a misalignment. 

What?

The issue is not "just HP" in spite of what you might read.

The internal battery might be inflated / swollen and causing the area around the keyboard / touchpad to distend.

What?

The only remedy for a bloated battery is removal of the bad battery and replacement.
