@captlee -- was the new battery shipped to you? By law, such a battery must be shipped with less than 50% of a charge.  So, your computer will run on battery power for a while, until the battery get recharged.

You could have a hardware fault, such that the circuits that divert some incoming power from the external power-supply is not correctly being diverted to recharge the battery.

Or, your external power-adapter could be failing -- not providing any power to your computer.

If the original HP Warranty has expired, you need to take the computer to a qualified technician, to trouble-shoot.

After contacting the battery vendor, I was pleased to know that the battery has no fuse.  After talking to a computer tech, he stated that the diagnostic tests aren't 100% reliable.

So, long story short, I received a replacement battery and it seems to work fine, the N/B recognizes and charges it.

Thanks for the support and I hope this helps someone else if they run across this issue.

Interesting. Computers are not 100% reliable, either. But, you can rely on the certainty of death and taxes.
