my HP Victus Laptop isnt holding the charging occasionally, if i plug out my charger the pc is getting turned off, its been only one year since i have bought this laptop. my mouse also ocassiponally gets stuck and cant use it, mouse gets stuck but screeen works fine. But after some days none of these happens, laptop gets powered on without ac charging and touchpad also works fine, and then again after a week the issue gets up. no physical damage done to the laptop. i didnt expect this quality from hp. hope someone could help clear these issues.

Hi @Mengmengmengmen

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds frustrating, especially since the issue is intermittent. Based on similar cases, here are some steps to troubleshoot both the charging issue and the touchpad freezing problem:

Fixing the Charging Issue

Step 1: Check Battery Health

  1. Open HP Support Assistant and run a Battery Check.
  2. If the battery health is poor, consider a replacement.

Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the laptop and unplug the charger.
  2. Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  3. Plug the charger back in and turn on the laptop.

Step 3: Update BIOS & Battery Drivers

  1. Visit HP’s support page and download the latest BIOS update.
  2. Open Device Manager → Expand Batteries.
  3. Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery → Select Update Driver.

Step 4: Calibrate the Battery

  1. Charge the laptop to 100%.
  2. Use it until the battery drains completely.
  3. Recharge to 100% without interruption.

Fixing the Touchpad Freezing Issue

Step 1: Update Touchpad Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager → Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  2. Right-click your touchpad and select Update Driver.

Step 2: Disable Touchpad Power Saving

  1. Open Device Manager → Expand Human Interface Devices.
  2. Right-click I2C HID Device → Select Properties.
  3. Go to Power Management and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Step 3: Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity

  1. Open Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  2. Increase Touchpad Sensitivity.

If the issues persist, you can check this HP Support thread for additional solutions. Let me know what results you get, and I can refine the troubleshooting further!

I have followed the steps, battery problem didn't arise. Touchpad problem still exists, it keeps on getting stuck and I have followed all the mentioned steps to repair it but no use.

And a sudden blackout issue has developed in the system after the bios update.

Thanks for the detailed follow-up—it really helps paint the full picture.

Since the battery passed diagnostics but the system still shuts down without AC power and the touchpad intermittently freezes, plus now you’re seeing blackouts after a BIOS update, this points to a deeper firmware or power management conflict.

Let’s break it down and tackle it step by step:

🔋 Battery/Power Issue (Intermittent Shutdown Without Charger)

Even if the battery health looks fine, the symptoms suggest:

  • A power delivery issue from the battery to the motherboard
  • Or a firmware-level miscommunication after the BIOS update

Try This:

Reset Embedded Controller (EC):

  • Shut down the laptop
  • Unplug the charger
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds
  • Plug the charger back in and boot up

Reflash or Roll Back BIOS (if available):

  • Go to HP’s Drivers & Software page for your exact Victus model
  • Check if there’s a newer BIOS version or an option to roll back to the previous one
  • Use HP BIOS Recovery (press Win + B while powering on) if the system becomes unstable

Battery Driver Reset:

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Batteries
  • Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery → Uninstall
  • Restart the laptop (Windows will reinstall it automatically)

🖱Touchpad Freezing (Still Unresolved)

Since driver updates and power settings didn’t help, this could be:

  • A firmware-level glitch introduced by the BIOS update
  • Or a hardware-level fault in the touchpad ribbon or controller

Try This:

  1. Boot into Safe Mode and test the touchpad:
    • If it works fine there, it’s likely a driver or software conflict
  2. Check for conflicting software:
    • Disable or uninstall any third-party mouse/touchpad utilities
  3. Use HP UEFI Diagnostics:
    • Restart and press Esc → F2 for diagnostics
    • Run the Touchpad or Input Device Test (if available)

⚠️ Sudden Blackouts After BIOS Update

This is a red flag. If the system is now randomly shutting off or going black:

  • It may be a BIOS bug or incomplete flash
  • Or a power rail issue triggered by the update

What You Can Do:

  • Perform a BIOS Recovery using HP’s built-in method:
    • Power off the laptop
    • Hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds
    • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears

You’ve been incredibly thorough so far—let’s get this sorted once and for all.
