The laptop was finally returned to me on May 14, after being picked up from me on Apr 9, and was returned to me with exactly the same reported issue. It was trivial to demonstrate. On May 14 I opened the return box, booted it up, noted the battery charge level, and immediately did "shutdown /s /t 0". On May 15, I booted it up, found the battery charge level had dropped ~10%, and immediately did "shutdown /s /t 0". Today, May 16, I booted it up and found the battery charge level had dropped ~10% more.
Flextronics claimed to have replaced the motherboard. Again. This is now the 2nd laptop, 3rd battery and 4th motherboard.
Using eventviewer, I was able to determine that after Flextronic received the laptop, it was booted:
- Apr 15, 16, 17
- May 12
Perhaps coincidentally, May 12 happened to be the date HP told me the laptop would be returned to me by. It looks suspiciously like Flextronic investigated the issue for a few days, perhaps by following the reproduction steps included with the returned laptop, then did nothing until the deadline was reached.
I cannot begin to describe how angry I am that my laptop was taken away for over a month and returned in the same condition.
