Hello,
My HP laptop has recently stopped charging even when the charger is plugged in. The battery icon shows “Plugged in, not charging”. I have already tried the following steps but the issue persists:
Checked with a different charger
Removed and reinserted the battery
Updated BIOS and battery drivers
Performed a hard reset
The problem started suddenly and now the laptop only works when plugged in. Please advise how to fix this issue or if a hardware replacement is needed.
Thank you.

Hi @ymrben,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is showing "Plugged in, not charging," and you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, here are a few additional suggestions.
Check the Power Adapter and Battery Connection:
- Ensure the power adapter is properly connected and that the LED light near the power port is lit.
- Check for any physical damage to the power adapter and cable.
- Reseat the battery firmly and ensure there are no visible signs of damage to the battery connectors.
Battery Calibration:
- Sometimes recalibrating the battery can resolve charging issues. To do this, let the battery drain down to 0% and then recharge it fully to 100% without interruptions.
Battery Health Check:
- Run the HP Battery Check tool via HP Support Assistant to assess the battery condition. This tool will provide information on whether the battery needs replacement.
Reset Power Management Settings:
- Go to Device Manager > Batteries > Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select "Uninstall device."
- Then, restart your laptop. The driver will be reinstalled automatically.
Check for System Updates:
- Ensure that your operating system is updated. Sometimes system updates can resolve compatibility issues with charging.
Hardware Check:
- If possible, test with another known working battery or charger to rule out hardware faults.
- Inspect the charging port for any debris or damage.
If after trying these steps the issue still persists, it might indicate a hardware issue with either the battery, charging port, or the motherboard.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
