Laptop not charging

Hi, I have a 15-au116nl laptop running Ubuntu 22.04. I've just turned on the laptop for the first time since before Christmas and found the battery empty. The problem is that the battery isn't charging at all. When I plug in the adapter, the led near the port turns orange (signalling it is charging), but then it turns white (signalling it finished charging) after a few seconds. The battery doesn't charge at all, and unplugging the laptop shuts it down immediately.

I have tested the ac adapter with a multimeter and it seems fine.

I also have tried to shutdown the laptop, unplugging it, and pushing down the power button for a full minute to do a power reset, both with and without the battery plugged in, to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

If the computer was not connected to power the time you were not using it,

and / or

If the battery is completely drained and is dead (or close to dead),

The battery will likely NOT recover.

I found a review for a similar model in this series dated 2017.

Just based on the date alone, it is likely time to change out (replace) the battery.
