My Laptop comes with the intel 2030M 2.50-GHz processor (2.0-MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W) 713164-001. I upgraded it to the i5 3210M 2.50-GHz processor (3.0-MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W) 680645-001.
The problem, as in the title, is that it turn off after exactly 30 minutes. If I switch back to the original processor, that doesn't happen. I did some research and ruled out ram issues, overheating issues, BIOS issues. I upgraded the BIOS version and it still happens. I came across a post with the same issue, but different laptop brand, and the answer on that post is that the platform controller hub supports a specific family of intel processors so that an upgrade wouldn't work. Is this the case for me?
This is the post I found:

Thank you.

Here's the problem you have:
The HP 2000-2d24DX comes with an Intel HM70 Express Chipset which only supports the following processors:
2030M -- Pentium
2020M -- Pentium
1000M -- Celeron
In order to install an Intel Core processor, you need a motherboard that comes with the Intel HM75 Express Chipset.
This information can be found in chapter 1 of the service manual:
ManualsLib - Makes it easy to find manuals online!
So, if you don't want your notebook to shut off like that, you will need to leave the original processor installed or replace the motherboard with one listed in chapter 3 of the service manual that has an Intel HM75 Express Chipset.

Thank you for the prompt answer and for pointing me in the right direction to understanding my issue. It looks like I'm trying to pump some life into an already old computer. I learned a lot along the way. I don't know if I will invest any more into this laptop but I sure did learn how to tear it down completely and upgrade most of it. I'm glad I can find answers to this issues here.

I had also tried to run my laptop with an Intel Core i7-3632QM and had the same issue. Would the Intel HM75 Chipset work with that processor or is this processor beyond compatibility with my laptop? I looked at the service manual and it seems that the i5 3230M is the highest possible upgrade I can do along with the HM75 Chipset. So I am guessing that upgrading to an i7 wouldn't work, although it did work for 30 minutes as did the i5 3210M for 30 minutes. For reference, I am looking at this page https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Pentium_Dual-Core_Mobile/2030M.html which lists other processors with the same socket. But like I said, I guess the i5 3230M is the highest possible upgrade I can do along with the HM75 Chipset, correct?

Even though it is not listed as a supported processor in the service manual and since you ran it for 30 minutes and it worked exactly the same as the i5 did, theoretically it should work in the HP 2000 motherboard with the HM75 chipset.
The chipset itself does support the i7-3632QM as you can see from the link below (click on the compatible products tab).
Mobile Intel® HM75 Express Chipset
Personally, I think it has a very good chance of working since it is a 35W processor and not a 45W processor.

Thanks for the HM75 chipset data. I am more confident now, to try an upgrade. I did find something very strange. If you click on the specifications link for the HM75 page you gave me, and you go down to I/O specifications, you see that it supports USB 2.0. And if you search for the, supposedly lower tier chipset HM70 https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/67419/mobile-intel-hm70-express-chipset/specifi...it shows that it supports USB 3.0 as well as USB 2.0. Yet my laptop which came with the HM70, only has USB 2.0 jacks. But anyway, that's off topic.

You're very welcome.
Here are some eBay listings for the HP 2000 HM75 motherboard with a W8 standard product key.
According to chapter 1 of the manual, none of the models in that series have USB 3 ports regardless of the chipset.

Hi there. So I bought the Mobile Intel® HM75 Express Chipset. And upgraded the CPU to the i5 3210M. It works well, of course. However, I am curious to find out if there is a BIOS update to this chip. It is currently F. 3A. And I would like to know if that is the only version or if there is an upgrade. The reason I am thinking about this is because I am looking to get an i7 3632QM, as previously discussed. And I might have to upgrade the BIOS, in case I run in to any issues. Thanks.
