HP Laptop 14-bs0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi. I need some help. It started about two weeks when my laptop shut down unexpectedly at around 30% with no warning. And now recently it has started to do it at around 50%. I have tried calibrating the battery manually and automatically and ran the battery tests you would find at HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. I have practically ran all  the tests and everything comes back fine but the problem still occurs. I also have another problem where I can't get into hp pc hardware diagnostics uefi bios. I have only managed to get in there twice.

Product Name: HP Laptop 14-bs0xx

Tests ran on 21.08.20

Battery age: 1082 days

Cycle Count: 602

Design Capacity: 2850 mAh

Full Charge Capacity: 1927 mAh

Remaining Capacity: 1902 mAh (98%)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Please reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and check if that helps

Step 01. Click on the Start Button
Step 02. Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager
Step 03. Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left
Step 04. Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall
Note: This Battery driver will get re-installed automatically when you restart the Notebook again
Step 05. Please Shutdown the Notebook
Step 06. Remove the Battery and unplug the Power Adapter ( For Notebooks with Removable Batteries )
Step 07. Press and Hold the Power Button for full 1 Minute
Step 08. Go ahead and put back the Battery and connect the Power Adapter and restart

Next update the BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

If the issue persists run a Battery Test again to confirm the Hardware Functionality

- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Power > Battery

Let me know how it goes 😊

Hi. Thanks for your response. I have tried the first way before but I didn't do step 6,7 and 8. So I tried it again with all the steps. I'll let you know if it works. I also have done a battery test before but I'll do it again if the first method hasn't worked. In addition, I have just noticed that I have another problem: When I click on the start search box nothing happens (it won't let me type). So when I was following the steps I went onto settings and searched device manager there. Could you please help me with this problem and I'll let you know if the steps have worked or not.

Thanks!!

Hi, The first method did not work for me and this time it shut down unexpectedly around 65%. As for the second method:

"If the issue persists run a Battery Test again to confirm the Hardware Functionality

- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Power > Battery"

nothing happens (when I press Esc repeatedly, the menu doesn't come up for me to press the F2 key.) I have done the test before but I can't get to it for some reason now. I have tried multiple times to get to the menu but it hasn't worked. The last time I managed to do the test was on 21.08.20 (The results are in my first post.) Please could you help.

Thanks!!

@12359,

What happens if you run without a battery?

If it works, I would suspect the battery has a short.  Batteries are not forever.

It this your laptop,

@12359

Did you test that it can run without battery?   If so, replace battery.
