Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

Pavilion 15-CC154TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Here is my scenario -

My laptop has 100% charge. I am using my laptop & draining my battery normally. After using it has 50-65% charge --> windows shows low battery warning --> the laptop immediately shut down by itself.
Then the laptop won't turn on without plugin. After plugin when I turn on the laptop, it shows charging from 0% & start charging normally till 100%. Also after turning on, all my running task(s) remains there as it was.

I have noticed another issue. After this unexpected shutdown, I turn on the laptop with plugin --> unlock my pc as usual --> plug out. Then the laptop still runs with the battery but it shows 0% charge (includes charge LED blinking white). I can use the laptop normally for around  >1.5 hours with this approach. It seems like the battery has charge but its just showing 0%.

I don't know what is the problem with, its battery or something else. I have already tried battery calibration several times, update/reinstall drivers, reset power plans.
PLEASE help me.

@saikat33

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Do you get any error messages on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer. If the issue persists, follow the next steps.

Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger:

Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.
  4. The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
  5. To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.

AC Adapter Test:

The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.

Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.

  • In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click an AC Adapter Test.
  • Click Run once.
  • The AC Adapter Test begins.
  • When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.

Battery Test:

Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:

  1. In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
  2. Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
  3. When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.

If the test passes, continue with these steps:

  • 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
  • 2. Expand batteries.
  • 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
  • 4. Shut down the computer.
  • 5. Disconnect the charger.
  • 6. Remove the battery. (only for removable battery)
  • 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
  • 8. Insert the battery only. (only for removable battery)
  • 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for replying @Echo_Lake

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
No & I am facing this issue for last 3/4 months.
  • Do you get any error messages on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)?
    No, everything is working normally.

I have already done all of those steps by googling. Then posted here.

However my recent 'power source test' shows some random results. I am calling it random because when this incident happened, I have immediately run the test while turning on the pc with plug-in. Then it showed me an error. After the result, I clicked exit & normally the windows start. After some time of charging I have repeated the same test in the diagnosis menu. Then it showed me OK. (image attached below)
Another thing I want to mention that, in 'battery details' the full charge capacity always shows random results since many months. Comparing with design capacity it shows 55%, 63%, 81%, 77% , 70%  etc.

Should the problem is with hardware ?? Battery or some motherboard components ??
One of my friends said the problem can be with the battery fuel gauge. That's why pc showing these random results & shutting down unexpectedly. I don't know where this fuel gauge is. Is it in the motherboard or inside the battery ?!

waiting for your reply...
