Laptop shutting down (without any indication) on battery power although battery indicates >40%

@A_P_R

I have gone through your Post and I would like to help

Please reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and check if that helps

Step 01. Click on the Start Button
Step 02. Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager
Step 03. Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left
Step 04. Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall
Note: This Battery driver will get re-installed automatically when you restart the Notebook again
Step 05. Please Shutdown the Notebook
Step 06. Remove the Battery and unplug the Power Adapter ( For Notebooks with Removable Batteries )
Step 07. Press and Hold the Power Button for full 1 Minute
Step 08. Go ahead and put back the Battery and connect the Power Adapter and restart

Next update the BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

If the issue persists run a Battery Test to confirm the Hardware Functionality

- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Power > Battery

Let me know how it goes 😊

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the "Solution Accepted" on this Post and it will also help other community members with similar issue.

Hello Krazy,

Thanks for replying

I have performed all the tests as suggested by you & all the results found satisfactory including Battery Test

But the problem not only persists but aggravated considerably as today laptop shutdown when the battery was indicating around 67 - 68%.

@A_P_R

Thanks for keeping me posted

The Notebook does not shut down when plugged in, am I correct?

Since the issue persists only when running on Battery Power, I suggest you contact HP Support for Battery replacement

Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/ and select your Country to get the Contact details for HP Support

Thank you

Hello Krazy,

Thanks for prompt reply

Further, yeah, it is correct that laptop shutdown on battery power & battery might be giving trouble but if so, why it is not being captured in component test (it was done on plugged in as well as on battery, both conditions & results were same, the snapshot of both tests is attached here for your ready reference)

@A_P_R

The problem could be with cells in the Battery going faulty due to usage, that is why the Test does not detect this failure as abnormal

But this is an issue with the battery and needs to be replaced

I can confirm that problem from other laptops.

For example: If one cell of three is failing, then your laptop would power down without any warning at 33% (that's the defective cells capacity).

Try another battery first.
