Hello!

The track pad mouse buttons on the laptop recently stopped working and I noticed that there was swelling beneath the keyboard and the track pad. I'm worried that it might be the battery. It has other problems, like broken hinges, but those are not essential. I ran the battery recall utility and it gave a green check mark for my battery.

What can I do in such a circumstance? I believe I have some warranty left over, but even if I don't, I would like this problem fixed.

Please advise!

You are perhaps correct - the battery is probably inflated and causing the deformity in the keyboard area.

If the battery is indeed the underlying cause of the issue,

The battery will fail and must be removed and replaced.

Thank you for your answer! PartSurfer was helpful because I was able to get the part number from there, but it had the N/A next to it, so I ended up buying the part from NewEgg.

FWIW your HP Parts Store link times out.

You are welcome.

Odd - the link to the store does time-out in Edge but is ok in Firefox.

Might be a cookie conflict.... ?

Too, Everything is very busy right now!

I'll take another look and see if I can do anything with that link... Thanks.

Stay Safe.

Oh, BTW - I've ordered from NewEgg - never had any issues with this merchant...
