I am thinking of purchasing an HP ProBook 455 laptop that uses a USB type C connector for the power.  The power is rated at 1.7 A at 90 VAC input.  Can this computer operate at 240 volts, 50 Hz in Europe with just adding a simple adapter for the plug into the wall?

Yes HP power supplies operate in a wide range of input power while maintaining the same output. For example the power supply on the laptop I am using to send this works with 100-240 volt input. You just need a plug adapter for the wall socket or the European lead from the "brick" to the wall.
