Hello!
I have a bad experience about BIOS update (F.22 Rev.A / 18.8 MB / Aug 18, 2017) for laptop model 15-BS014UR, first time it was updated with HP support assistant running legal Windows 10 x64, all the updates finished and BIOS update asked restart, everything has completed succesfully, BIOS was writen and verified and laptop restarted one more time, after that the LED lights turned on, HDD and FAN worked as well, but screen was black, after 20-25min of waiting, turned off the laptop, seperated power cord and battery for 5-10min, then tried tu turn it on, but nothing happened, just like before, only LED lights, HDD and FAN worked.
Have tried BIOS recovery options like mentioned and showed with the video in HP Support, all of them, even with USB recovery flash drive, but nothing happened. So I taken the Laptop to store where I bought it, then it's traveled to service center and they gaved brief, that motherboard of laptot is broken, so the store changed tha laptot to new one.
Next laptop was the same model and the same thing happened like mentioned before, only now the BIOS was updatet not with HP Support assistant, but directly from HP Supprt site - drivers and downloads exactly for this model and operating sistem - Windows 10 x64.
The difference between first situation is that now I wait the anser from the store, and I hope that they will change the laptot for new one more time, 'couse I don't want my new 1 day old laptot to be rapaired in service center with changing the motherboard etc.
So HP Team, what is the best solution in this situation, how to react further and what not to do, and will the store agree to change tha laptot once again to new one?
Best regards
Janis
PS. Sorry for my english, if there's some mistakes, just haven't comunicated in forums for a while, but hope, that everything is understanding.

after the flash
go into the BIOS and hit the reset to default bios settings, do that?
or is the ESC key dead. you said screen was black but was there TEXT ever or that HP logo. there, ?ever.
the text is "hit ESC key to enter SETUP) called BIOS for 36 years.
see that? if not its bricked if the battery out long resets fail... its now offically dead. as vast numbers of folks have done.
"use the rule, if it is not broke dont fix it?" age old and still valid, and 100x that for BIOS. leave it alone.
yet one more person flashing BIOS and bricking there PC (now you bricked 2 laptops;?)
endless posts on that here, and all other forums on PC and motherboards, world wide
why do this, at all, what is the NEED, unstated by you , needs matter, why?
if under warranty its really HP;s PC, kinda.? no? why wait and brick it later (LOL, HAHAHAHAHA):smileyfrustrated:
bios rules of the GAME.
- never flash bios.
- never flash bios. no, really don't
- if you must?, and HP told you to, or you know for sure, then ask how to , and how NOT GET THE WRONG FILES.
- did you ask first? no , wow !
too late...
Ok so if you are lucky the BIOS can be regressed but not if at UEFI max last upate, they block those.
nice huh, making vast bricked PC not regressable.
unless you ask HP direct, (contact HP) and get a custom only for YOU , flash reset. binary. based on your SSID.
version f22 is the newest one. as you can seek, its like, (fresh apple new,,,)
BIOS
Version:
F.22 Rev.A
Operating systems:
Windows 10 (64-bit)
Release date:
Aug 18, 2017
File name:
(18.8 MB)

as an old guy , tech
that flashed vast PC for 36 years. (first ones you are ROM IBM, unplug and buy new chip 28 pin DIP) i even cloned them.
we used DOS to flash, (it not preempting OS so works GREAT , BEST )
HP uses thats, on newers PC it uses, FREEDOS.
good
then in the old days, (smarter bears?) the smart guys... (Burn application app for short)
the DOS burn APP lauched,
and the burn ICON IS DEAD (yah dead) BY DESIGN (yah , hands clapping cheering )
then it tells you to back up the old BIOS first. , amazing no, ? Imagine making a true REGRESSION path (plan B)
then you do that to a folder you create (c:\old-bios\
then when done the magic APP (coded with brains) un hides the BURN NEW BIOS BUTTON
and you the burn the new binary to flash ROM.(EEPROM actual fact)
and then brick it... .(lol)
if you asked HP first to match your BIOS EXACTLY !!!!!
it won't brick. (in a perfect world) and LT battery not shorted out, yahahdahah...
but what does Exactly mean, ?
learn that HP PCs both desktop LAP.
just 1 series, model can have 10 motherboards used, count those 1,2,3,.... (read the parts surfer see>?)
guess what?. it must match
so what is different.?
well nothing much (:smileyembarrassed:) sarc off.
the VIDEO chip is not the same!, making the BURN FAIL , killing the screen DEAD.
or those other chips different ,like wifi, ethernet, or even a newer Intel
When done, do a long cold , no power reset. ( this discharges large internal Capacitors, and clears Cmos latchup- if present)
next:
push reset in bios pages, advanced. (if BIOS is still alive, sure)
if still dead.?,,, pull the coin cell, and main battery , do a long reset again,,
wait 1hour, with both batteries, out and AC pack out, waiting for power inside to drop below, 0.4vdc,
below any diode Vf spec, volts. a true discharged zero volt PC. is now.
now put it all back as new , sans that LARGE BATTERY (they love to FAIL)
and power it up, does the ESC key work NOW , sure, if yes, do the advanced bios reset bios to defaults.
done.
boot and push F9 ,key see if all bootable drives are seen NOW. are they then pick one, mine has 3. (now)
if the above facts buck against the lofty goals and paranoia of the UEFI committee, so be it.
Stop burning BIOS, will yah?

After BIOS update laptot done everything automatically, just like meant in installation instruction before updating, nothing was done wrong, because this is my third HP laptot and I never had broblems like this before, everything happened the same, but the difference was that my old laptop turned on normally (HP Pavillion 15 approx 2013. year of prod.).
Now it wont show even the HP logo at the beginning and none of the keys are working as well, all you can hear is that HDD runs and FAN runs as well, if it was a chance to see HP logo or sign - hit esc key, then I would't written a post here and solved everything by my own, but now it looks really dead! It's allways said - keep your software updated, but in this situation I wont see it right. Before update it was running on BIOS ver. F10 and it worked.
I need to hear HP professional opinion.
Best regards

its not software it's firmware. (sorry)
and if you mess that up (not you, by any means, that means) no lack of ways, for sure.
then the PC is bricked,
no blame here,!
after all some PC here, they HP changed BIOS 8 times just to get UEFI to run and not fail. (in as much as 1 year)
there are lots of ways to get a bad burn.
wrong BINARY tops the list.
not asking for it first (asking for a match, and also if savvy the regression method and files if needed) ask, no demand it.
or brick it.
and flashing with bad battery inside. causing power to be weak and or noisy /glitchy, ever seen batteries fail bad?
if you flash the BIOS for HP adding new processors and you didnt add a new processor
you will brick it, sooner or later, like zillions have now.
do not flash it, leave the BIOS alone until you KNOW FOR A FACT it fixes SOMETHING REAL.
this has always been true for 36 years, now. a hard cold fact.
if the PC boots ok, why mess with BIOS, love to hear it?
why fix working?
it's not MS OS full exploits, now that is a tiger by the tail , and x1000 that if running XP, IMO

Yes, I'm also in the same boat. DId the stupid thing of updating BIOS because HP Support Assistant suggested so. Now, no HP logo, only black screen. I hope this does not cost the motherboard. Anything else I can try? I did try hard reset, win+b/v and usb bios recovery nothing changed. Laptop powers ON, but nothing but a black screen. Yes, this laptop (HP 15-BS576TX) has an dedicated graphics card (Radeon 520) too.
