Now, I'm not sure:
This page has both updates for Intel processors: The one you posted, and the one I posted.
The one you posted is newer but not specifically for the dv7-3183cl as latest one on the dv7-3183cl's actual support page.

Thank you both so very much with your quick replies of support.
Helping a friend with upgrade of RAM and SSD.
I ordered the Crucial RAM Kit 2 x 8GB and installed based on another post you both answered in the past. It comes up as 6GB in the BIOS settings so am hopeful this will resolve the new modules as not recognized correctly so I may go ahead with the 500GB SSD Install and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit as my plan. Any additional input you may have would also be greatly appreciated as well.
I also saw the post about the WiFi upgrade as NOT an option. Thank you.

Your Reply:
On notebooks such as yours that have the first-generation Intel dual core processors, the max is 2 x 4 GB and you would be throwing good money after bad trying to see if it would support more than that.
The dv7-3xxx notebooks with the first-generation Intel Quad core processors will unofficially support 2 x 8 GB of memory.
What I purchased and Installed for the DV7-3138cl
Crucial DDR3 16GB Kit 2 x 8GB 1333 MHz PC3-10600 Laptop RAM SODIMM Memory 1.5V

You're very welcome, Domonic.
The product specs for the dv7-3183cl indicate that is has an Intel i5-430M dual core processor, so I do not believe that a BIOS update will resolve the problem.
The BIOS updates on the dv7-3000 model series' support page are confusing to me because we know that F.1D is definitely for the dv7-3183cl, because that is listed on the support page for the dv7-3183cl, and BIOS update F.46 is for dv7-3xxx notebooks with Intel processors.
F.46 has a newer release date than F.1D.
But if you look at the revision history for both BIOS updates, they take completely different paths (F.46 has a previous revision history of F.46 back to F.33, and F.1D goes back to F.1A), so I do not believe that F.46 is the correct BIOS update for the dv7-3183cl.

@Paul_Tikkanen I looked it over and came to the same conclusion as you but without really being able to explain. I also think F.46 is not right for this specific model, although it seems it should be.
