I am on my 2nd HP Spectre. The first one was replaced by HP due to
- defective mousepad and part not being available
- and the leather encasement was splitting at the corner ends.
I only had the Spectre 2 months when I began experiencing these issues. It took HP 2 months (after receiving the Spectre back) to agree to replace it. Because I love the design and how sleek it looks for business I purchased a new Spectre and hoped to avoid issues. However, after having this new one for only 4 months, am experiencing the same issue with the case splitting at the edges, exposing metal piece of the laptop. In addition to this, the WIFI constantly drops and it doesn’t load all of the recommended updates. I get messages that the driver doesn’t allow some of the updates.
This makes no sense to me for $1500 laptop to keep having issues, especially the case splitting. I even made a suggestion to HP when my first case split that they should reinforce the edges with heavier piping or plastic edge protectors. This is a known issue to HP as I have recently seen other owners with this issue. However HP isn’t addressing it rapidly enough and want to make it appear as normal wear/tear by the consumer. I know in my case that’s incorrect as I’m very protective of my laptop and keep it in a case. I would even buy edge protectors if I could find them small enough. I know some folks believe the splitting might be due to heat, however my laptop doesn't overheat/get too hot.
I am very disappointed and don’t know what to do now with a 2nd device falling apart. I would haven’t purchased it again if I thought this could happen twice. HP sent a survey out today, and I expressed this exact post to them. While this HP Spectre looks good I find that the quality is poor and wouldn’t buy it again or recommend it.

I had the same problem
The first spectre folio I bought, the leather started splitting within 3 months of use so I returned that it and got a new spectre folio thinking that the fault was within that single unit, However upon using the second one again within a matter of 2 months the leather started splitting again.
I have to say this is a brilliant design, but HP needs to go back to the drawing board to find a solution to this problem

I completely agree! As mentioned, I'm also on my second folio and have the same issue. Both issues within 2-4 months after having the laptop. Extremely frustrating that they haven't considered my solution of adding reinforced end protectors at corners of the machine.
