As the other customers/owners have written to express their problem with the left hinge broken, etc., I, too, have the same problem.  On July 27, 2018, I went to open my computer, which up until this time I had no issue with opening my computer, nor has it been in any accidents or dropped, and I heard a sound which you should not hear  when opening one's laptop.  I stopped and examined my laptop and noticed a scratch across  the left hinge,  Hmmmm I said to myself.  On continuing to try to open my computer, the left hinge broke and there was a nasty crack across the corner of the laptop.  Now I'm unable to close the lid of my laptop and must secure it, unplug it, replug it, all before I can be sure nothing will happen to it.  Now, unfortunately, my computer is out of extended warranty as of May, 2018.  Whether it matters or not, I was unable to extend my warranty as to a couple of very stress related months and I don't know what to do as I feel this problem is due to a design flaw on your end as the other people have mentioned.  Please advise as to what help you can offer me and as soon as possible, please.  Your attention will be most appreciated. Inside computer - broken hinge - leftInside computer - broken hinge - leftCrack on the outside of computerCrack on the outside of computer

Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

I have the exact same problem with my HP Pavilion - left back corner unhinged - not sure if the hinge is actually "broken" or not, but my laptop now has a gaping hole in it. I discovered the problem as recently my laptop screen went dark. As the laptop screen is closely tied to lid properly opening and closing, there is no doubt in my mind that the crack casing is the problem, and God only knows what screws or cables became detached in the process. I did try to reach out to HP the other day, but since my laptop is no longer under warranty,  first, I couldn't get support on the phone, and secondly, I couldn't even chat. So I hope someone at HP gets this and can do something. It's very strange, as I use my laptop esssentially as a desktop, connected to external monitor, keyboard and mouse, and I NEVER TRAVEL WITH LAPTOP - IT JUST SITS ON MY DESK. Many thanks, Jonathan
