Left hinge is broken

The left hinge broke one morning when I opened my laptop. I have not dropped it or forced it closed so I have no idea why it happened. I've seen many other people complain about the same thing. And to add insult to injury, the laptop randomly drops the wi-fi connection. The wi-fi is working just fine, it's the laptop.

I've owned this laptop just over 2 years so I understand my warranty has expired. Since this seems to be a widespread HP problem, is HP offering any compensation?
