ENVY 17 notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The left hinge of the laptop appears to be damaged. There is a clicking or faint cracking noise when I close or open the laptop (there is also faint rattling?). The cover threatens to open or separate if I don't open the laptop slowly and apply pressure. I read other forum posts and many complain about the Pavilion and Envy series having this issue. My laptop is about 5 years old now and obviously out of warranty, the hinge issue seemed to come about from age as I read somewhere that the hinges suffer from tension due to loss of lubrication and therefor become stiff. If it is the hinge where can I get it replaced and can I order the hinges online?

Thanks in advance.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
