Hello,

The Mute Button on my keyboard (the F6 key) works and serves it purpose by muting and unmuting the volume. The Red light on that key however does not work. It used to work before but suddenly it has stopped working.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Try the following.

Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78501-79000/sp78885.exe

When done, hold down the Windows key and press R

Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.

When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78501-79000/sp78642.exe

When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking the function of the mute led.

Regards,

Next time try first to go into device manager sound video game controllers. Go to the sound card, disable, then re-enable it. That worked for me. No uninstall or reboot required.

Is this method valid only for the above mentioned laptop ? I am having the same issue on my HP 15 BS542TU. I tried exactly what you instructed to, but it didn't work for me. Please help.

Try contacting HP or Microsoft Windows to get in touch with an expert technician who prepares the updates .  The thing that fixed it for me was in one of the Windows Updates.  Magically repaired it after installing update.  Best of luck!  Am sure the technicians who put out the updates know the answer.  Keep trying to contact them.  Sorry I am not of more help.
