What LCD displays are compatible with my Laptop?

Also, is a touch display upgrade possible (this is not that important, I'm just curious)?

The only display that is compatible with your notebook is HP p/n  720664-001

reference: HP Partsurfer for your notebook

Upgrading to a touchscreen display is not possible.

What is the reason you are looking for one?

How is that possible? In the past I've used LP173WD1-TLG2 and b173rw01 (I'm not sure which one is the original to be honest).

(Laptop fell from my bed once, landed on the front end and screen ceased to function from then on, and I cracked the screen a second time when I was cleaning it.. dried pet bird drooping and I guess I applied too much pressure).

Also, according to this manual isn't this a touchscreen option for my laptop:

749970-001 17.3 in (43.94 cm) display assembly, HD+, WLED, BrightView, AG, SVA, LED TouchSmart
display assembly for use only on HP Pavilion 17 TouchSmart Notebook computer models
(includes webcam/microphone module and wireless antenna cables)

Or am I reading it wrong?

Unfortunately you are not reading it right.  The operative word is TouchSmart. That is not what yours is.

The specs on your notebook

The HP partsurfer finds all parts that are compatible with a specific product number or product name notebook. It is actually a database for HP parts for your notebook.

The pinouts of the connectors on the touchscreen display are not the same as the one yours  was delivered with. That means it won't work with your notebook's system board.

Reading the Service manuals can be a bit tricky.

It's a shame that I can't upgrade to a touchscreen. Anyway, I found a list of compatible display panels for 17-e040us:
