Hi,

I have been having quite a few issues with my relatively new laptop. Recently the USB ports on the right side of the laptop both stopped working and I have done every diagnostic test possible but I think one of the tiny circuit breakers has blown. A few days later and now the laptop won't start at all. The LED code is two red flashes and then one white but I have not managed to find out what this code means. Mircaculously the laptop came on once following a hard reset and then I ran the hardware dianostics tool and got the following code from the failed long drive self test:

GGFP9Q-9L1A4B-XD7WMG-61CX13
K9K44EA

I understand this means the harddrive is failing but it doesn't give any more details. Does anyone know more about what these codes mean precisiely?

Many thanks,

Matt

Edit: I ran the short drive self test as well which also failed with the following code: GGFP9Q-9L1A4B-XD7WMG-60U713

Hi,

I think its still under warranty as it was only purchased towards the end of last year. I did however buy it in Uganda so maybe it had been in the shop for a while? No idea.....

Would this kind of a fault influence the laptops ability to start i.e. would the power button and charging light have issues working?

Many thanks,

Matt

The Born On date is important, along with your receipt it will perhaps be when the Warranty started, rather than

Hi,

So there seems to be an underlying other hardware issue regarding the power supply which may have caused the damage. When I insert the power cable I get flashing lights, 2 long red flashes and 1 white. I've read that these are codes to indicate what is wrong but I've not been able to find them anywhere. Does anybody know what they mean?

As you can see from the table you posted the codes start at 2*2.......I have however 2*1.....which is why I was asking if anyone knew what this meant?

Serial number: [edited] so 2015 28th week (Please note this laptop was however purchased October last year as can be seen from the :

There is now a specific pattern I have to follow to get the laptop to start. Take out the battery, perform hard reset, plug in power lead, watch lights blink red twice and then once and then it will start. If I reinsert the battery once it has started then it will also charge the battery........guessing no one has a clue as to what this all means 😉

Hi

Nope.  My nearest pat answer is.......

This will not work for everyone, but you may be lucky?
HP Notebooks and Mobile Workstations -
No Power, No Boot, No Display When Power Button Is Pressed

NOTE: Be sure the battery is installed in the computer and it has sufficient power before continuing. Due to the design of the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller, the power supply must be disconnected and the computer must be powered with battery power to reset the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller.

Unplug the AC power from the computer.
Press and hold the power button for more than 12 seconds.
Release the power button (after at least 12 seconds).
The computer will power on and should boot normally after releasing the power button.
Re-connect the AC power to the computer.

NOTE: In case the battery is not charging after performing the steps to reset the Embedded Controller, unplug and re-plug in the AC power again.

Red Power LED blinks two times, once every second, followed by a two-second pause. Two beeps. Processor thermal protection activated by either of the following methods: CAUTION: Internal components might be powered even when the computer is off. To prevent damage, disconnect the computer power cord before you remove a component. 1. Ensure that the computer air vents are not blocked and the cooling fan is running. 2. Open the access panel, press power button, and verify that the processor fan is spinning. If the processor fan is not spinning, make sure the fan cable is plugged into the computer board header. Ensure the fan is fully and properly seated or installed. 3. If fan is plugged in and seated properly, but is not spinning, the problem might be in the processor fan. Contact HP for assistance. 4. Verify that the fan assembly is properly attached. If problems persist, there might be a problem with the processor heatsink. Contact HP for assistance.
