That should be it for the drivers.

Now install this.

It says "Driver does not support hardware in current configuration." I tried sp59885.exe as well and sp58116.exe and no luck. Nothing with ? or ! in Device Manager and nothing under imaging devices.

That sounds like you do not have a WebCam???

Did you make sure it is Enabled in the BIOS???

That's what I was thinking but there's definitely a webcam on it. However i went through the BIOS and under devices webcam never showed up. It gives you can option to turn on and off fingerprint reader and whatnot as well. Only thing I can think of is the webcam is either defective or it was pulled loose by the corporation who donated them. When I have multiple machines with the same issue I tend to lean away from defective and towards the IT guys at the business who donated to us physically disabled the webcam for security reasons.

Here is the videos for the laptop.

Click on Display Bezel.

If you watch the video in your case, just to see if it is connected lift up on the top.

You do not need to remove the 2 screws.

Just separate the top part and look in.

If you can think of any BIOS related reasons as to why this wouldn't work but please let me know if you do.

I pulled an all nighter because somebody needs these machines tmrw afternoon, so I must sleep and take care of this when I wake up. I certainly appreciate all the help. I will leave this unsolved til I wake up and when I wake up I'll check in case you have other suggestions regarding the BIOS, and if nothing I suppose I take it apart tmrw and see if it's just a disconnected webcam and I'll mark it as solved.

Thanks so much for your help with these models, the charity greatly appreciates it and our computers go to a fantastic cause. So double thank you. 😁

I haven't slept much either.

I live in Saint Petersburg Florida and we have a CAT 5 heading for us.

If I do not reply tomorrow I hope its just because the power is out.

Best regards,

Tim

if bios cant see it , then its unplugged (some folks do unplug them for security reasons or laws , in gov offices etc)

i have the 8530w and p,  many actually

the cam runs off the usb 2 port chip inside,  intel.ICH7  bus i/o controller , 82801 chip (huge)

test USB 2 first,  ok?  if USB 2 is dead, (left ports (right on mine are  USB 3, renesas(NEC)

get those working first using only HP drivers (intels.com direct will fail hard)

then the camera driver last.

if USB 2 was working, (test it yet) the cameara should pnp and ID up at boot. if not its not talking or unplugged or the USB 2 is dead.

I have all mine running 10w, with all features,  even the docking port.

except,  hp security is dead (app) and bios flash stick fails(i have a hack for that)

and last bios questions.

ESC key, F10,  system config  , pick + built in devices, see integrated camera. clear a day right there, just below finger device, that is also dead if USB2 is dead, as is BT, and cam. spend some time here see what i there. in bios..

its save.

if not unpluged and it's a good camera.

if that checks out the chip it connects to has missing or wrong drivers installe.

i own a few 8540 w/p 's

and the cames all work after loading the drivers on your  support page.

w7-64b

load 1st , 7 of these?

then

open multimedia, and run

sp52437.exe
says this.
Microsoft .NET 3.5
-Windows Installer 3.1
-Physical Webcamera hardware & device driver installed.

Special Notes:
Webcam detection is enabled in this build.
Installer will check for "HP" and
"Webcam" in DeviceManager and if not found will exit the install.
that last bit is key here.

you support page is here.
what else could you need.  (most actual cams dont just fail. by self unless HIT)

first test the USB2  ports.

first.

see why here,  this is how it is wired.

cam.JPG

left chip  is intel, 82801 ,ICH7

the ICH7 has  no USB3 so has other chip for that NEC.

but you can see clearly that the driver for  ICH7 must be right first !

the cam last.

all the stuff  on the right is HP unique design, so Intel drivers may fail due  to that fact, run HP software only.

If fact Intels says (do not use there driver for this I/O chip unless your mobo  Intel MADE.

I run a cool program called Sniffer-v3, that sees all the chips and tells me what is there, with the case closed,

the first chip i scan is ICH7 (or or newer)

the newer chips came out spring of 2012.  with USB3,  so know when pc makers switched I/0 bus chips.

some 8560s use QM67 chip and not the ICH7,  but both lack USB3 and both drivers inf(etc) are in the HP SP12345.exe

file...  one is called the couger driver.
