My laptop is three years old. For the past two months the top left corner has started to make really loud buzzing/ whizzing noises as soon i switch it on. I bought a laptop cooling pad thinking it was a heating problem ( even though i don't game or download stuff) but the loud whizzing noise has not stopped. The noise is not constant but it keeps coming and going and stays for very long durations.
What could this be? I work on this laptop and the loud noise is very irritating and worrying.

The laptops can make various noises and if you have a physicall HDD that has moving parts, it can start to make sounds as it is physically working. It could either be the fan or the hard drive. You can test the hard drive through the HP programs that test them.
I think the best bet would be to contact customer support. They will offer things such as updating drivers, BIOS and so on, but they may have other troubleshooting ways that can help you out. Sorry I was not able to help you in solving your problem but I hope you will find an answer quick and get it fixed.

Hi,
Please provide the complete model or product number of the PC for further help:
https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c00033108
The sound is most likely from the fan, maybe you can post a link to a clip with the noise. There should be a difference between normal fan noise and malfunctioning fan noise. In any case you can try cleaning the air vents with a can of air (only use when PC is off and cold and try not to spray liquid in the computer as it freezes parts).
You should also completly update the PC through Microsoft and HP support assistant ( BIOS etc...)
It is also usually quite easy to replace the fan if it is malfunctioning.
Anyway, provide the complete model number so we can see the specs and service procedures.
Hope it helps,
David
