I just bought an OmniBook 3 laptop, and the fan is SO loud.  I previously had an HP Pavilion laptop that wasn't nearly this loud.  This is going to drive me bonkers.  Is there any fix for this?  Please help before I throw this thing across the room.

Hi @HappyTree_405

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If the fan on your HP OmniBook 3 is running loudly, it is often caused by high CPU usage, background processes, outdated BIOS, or thermal settings. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue.

Step 1: Restart the Laptop

  • Save your work and close all open applications.
  • Click Start > Power > Restart.
  • After the restart, check whether the fan noise has reduced.

Step 2: Check CPU Usage

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Click More details if necessary.
  • Select the Processes tab.
  • Check the CPU column.
  • If one application is using a high percentage of the CPU: Save your work.
  • Close the application or end the task if it is not needed.
  • Wait a few minutes to see if the fan slows down.

Step 3: Install Windows Updates

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates.
  • Install all available updates, including optional driver updates if available.
  • Restart the computer.

Step 4: Update BIOS and HP Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Enter your OmniBook 3 model or serial number.
  • Download and install the latest:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
  • BIOS
  • Chipset driver
  • Graphics driver
  • Restart the laptop after installation.

Step 5: Change the Windows Power Mode

  • Open Settings > System > Power & Battery.
  • Under Power Mode, select: Balanced
  • Monitor whether the fan speed decreases.

Step 6: Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it back on and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run the following tests:
  • System Test
  • Component Tests
  • click on Fan and run once.
  • If a failure ID is displayed, record it for further support.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
