I have tried all the recommended fixes to free up disk space, deleted all temporary files that I could, I have no programs other than the Windows OS program files, deleted all history, emptied recycle bin, ran disk cleanup several times. I have no pictures, documents or videos stored on the laptop. The only files besides Windows files are the HP files for user support. I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi @LLS07
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how discouraging it feels to keep seeing low disk space warnings even after you’ve cleared everything you can.
You’ve already done a thorough job with cleanup, so let’s go deeper into steps that can free space or help manage it more effectively.
Step 1: Check hidden system files
- Open File Explorer and go to This PC.
- Right-click your C: drive and select Properties.
- Click “Disk Cleanup” > “Clean up system files.”
- This will include Windows Update files, old restore points, and system logs that are not cleared in a normal cleanup.
Step 2: Manage System Restore space
- Press Windows key + R, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter.
- Go to the “System Protection” tab.
- Select your C: drive and click “Configure.”
- Reduce the maximum disk space used for restore points or delete older restore points.
Step 3: Uninstall optional Windows features
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Go to Apps > Optional features.
- Remove features you don’t use (for example, language packs or handwriting recognition).
Step 4: Move or disable hibernation file
- The hibernation file can take several GB of space.
- If you don’t use hibernation, you can disable it:
- Press Windows key + X, select Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type powercfg -h off and press Enter.
- This will remove the hibernation file and free space.
Step 5: Check OneDrive or cloud sync folders
- Even if you don’t store files locally, synced folders may be taking space.
- Right-click the OneDrive icon in the taskbar > Settings.
- Choose “Files On-Demand” so files are stored online only until opened.
Step 6: Consider external or expanded storage
- If the internal drive is very small (common in entry-level laptops), adding a microSD card or external drive for documents and media can help keep the system drive clear.
Here’s a helpful HP guide on managing storage space:
HP PCs - Freeing up storage space
By clearing hidden system files, adjusting restore points, and disabling hibernation, you can reclaim several gigabytes. Since you’ve already minimized personal files, these deeper steps should give your laptop breathing room.
