I'm planning on purchasing this laptop model and put in a solid state drive for it. Does anyone know what type of M.2 SSD this laptop is compatible with?

Hi,
It seems that to install an M2 SSD you will need to replace the 2.5" SSD in the PC and also purchase the "M.2 solid-state drive adapter bracket and connector board". The M2 SSD will still be a M2 Sata III SSD (form factor 2280). I believe it would be better and cheaper to replace the 2.5" mechanical drive with a 2.5" Sata III SSD such as the Samsung 850 evo or pro.
On page 57 and 60 of service manual you can see what I mean with the above:

Let me know if you need further help,

I posted my own post with this same question before I found this post. I can confirm there is a m.2 slot in this laptop, but i'm not sure if it's sata or pcie. I can't find documentation on it. The slot is right in the middle of the motherboard. It goes from middle to the bottom (you can see the silver mounting screw near the edge of the bottom of the laptop). I've upgraded the wifi card for $20 (intel 8265) from amazon, the ram for $83 (found exact same samsung ram as oem) on ebay, and a 2.5 ssd (500gb samsung evo) from newegg for $140. I'm mad I didn't see this slot when I first opened up the laptop because i'd be interested in using m.2 as a boot drive and the 2.5 slot for a hdd for storage capacity.

I got ahold of a PCIe NVMe AND a SATA drive from a friend and tested both last night. I can confirm that the port on this laptop is a m2 SATA. Mounting screw is the silver one right below the 3rd ribbon in the picture. There are two horizontal ribbons, and a 3rd vertical. Look just under the 3rd vertical ribbon. I'd recommend an m2 sata drive as a boot drive, and leaving the 1tb hdd in the 2.5 bay for storage.

Hi Sthlrd07,
I understand you figured out by testing that port on this laptop is a m2 SATA.
My question is:
Did both PCIe NVMe drive and SATA drive you have tested were recognised properly in the M.2 slot?
Thanks
