hp Laptop 14-dq1xxx
Ubuntu LTS

Hi, I've a HP Laptop 14-dq1xxx with motherboard HP 86C8 Version: 56.33.

I have researched for hours but didn't find anything about the compatibility with NVME SSD storage with this motherboard. The only post that I found was this:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Hp-14-dq1010ca/td-p/7896905

But when I try to access to the specs in this link:

https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c06512624

I note that is not working. So the thing is that now I have a 480 GB SATA SSD and I'd like to expand and add a M.2 NVME SSD storage in it. Is it possible? Does it has an extra slot for it or just is possible to have one SSD?

Thank you.

We can look up the service manual with a complete Model Number, 14-dq1xxx  won't work for manual search.

@tatuuuu,

Yes, your laptop is M.2 NVMe SSD compatible.

For example, check out this HP Laptop 14-dq1xxx User (Motherboard: HP 86C8) with a Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2TBHP Laptop 14-dq1xxx Performance Results - UserBenchmark, like this one: Amazon.com: Sabrent 2TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive (S....

Or this User: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/29444305 with an Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 2TB PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4, as here: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Internal-Solid-State-SSDPEKNW020T8X1/dp/B07GCLLKDC/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3R7U....

Or this User: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/30296554 with a Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 500GB, as seen here: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S500B/dp/B07M7Q21N7/ref=sr_1_3_mod_primary_new?crid....

Etc.

Hi, but does it support both SATA SSD and NVMe SSD simultaneusly or if you have one you can't have the other?

Thank you for your help.

@tatuuuu,

[EDIT:] Looking at various HP 86C8 configurations, I stand corrected. In short, it appears that HP made it impossible [see pic] to install a second SSD in your Hp Laptop 14-Dq1xxx, ONLY external SSD's. Therefore, you want and you'll love the speed and performance of an M.2 NVMe SSD.  Any additional drives, whether they be high capacity flash drives, external SSD drives, etc. are going to be much slower in comparison anyway.

Therefore, I would suggest to increase the drive capacity of an M.2 NVMe SSD to 2TB in your computer, such as: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S2T0B/dp/B07MFZXR1B/ref=sr_1_3?crid=TFTBO8DRZ37H&ke.... Two Terabytes should be quite sufficient space in and of itself.

My apologies for my initial misdirect!

Kind Regards,
