HP ENVY X360 - M6-Aq105dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I looked up at the manual for the part number. It recommends getting certain parts.

256-MB, M2.2280, solid-state drive supporting TLC for use on all computer models Part Number 847109-003

or
128-MB, M2.2280, SATA-3, solid-state drive for use only on computer models with model number m6-aq1XX Part Number827560-009

My question is:

Can I use all versions for SSD M2?

Samsung - SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2  is compatible?  Is there size limitations ??

Or my HP Envy is only compatible with this or similar - Samsung SSD 860 EVO

I bought and installed WD Black 500gb NVME SSD and it's NOT being detected. Is it because of 500 GB ?? or WD will not work with HP?

WD_Black SN750 500GB NVMe Internal Gaming SSD - Gen3 PCIe, M.2 2280, 3D NAND - WDS500G3X0C

Thanks in advance!

You're very welcome, Madhav.

Unfortunately I wouldn't know why the WD Black drive didn't work.

Maybe you should exchange it for the Samsung 970.

Did you make sure you firmly seated the drive in the slot?

Some other forum member installed a NVMe drive in a different model (even though the manual indicated NVMe drives were supported), and the BIOS didn't detect it and he swore he installed it right.

I suggested he give it another try and it worked the second time, so he must not have installed it right.

Otherwise it should just be plug and play.

I just checked the support page and read all of the current and previous BIOS release notes, and none have any info regarding M.2 drive fixes or enhancements.

@MadhavJani

It clearly says SATA - 3 therefore M.2 NVMe SSD won't work. You can use the following compatible drives

      1TB:   https://uk.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct1000mx500ssd4/ct11772859

 500GB:  https://uk.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct500mx500ssd4/ct11772893

Regards.

Hi, @MadhavJani

The HP ENVY X360 - M6-Aq1xx model series supports NVMe drives as is evidenced by the post you found, but also by the fact that if you google the part number for the first of the two drives offered by HP in the model series, you will see that it is a NVMe drive, not a SATA one.

See chapter 5, of the service manual, page 38...

You can also enter that part number in the HP parts store at the link below and see that it is a NVMe drive.

Agree ! When I searched PART # given in the HP doc, it is evidently an NVME drive.

So, Can I assume that my laptop is compatible with NVME M.2 SSD ?

If YES, Should I buy SAMSUNG  970 EVO PLUS ?

else Please advise what SSD I should buy ?

HP Recommended

I would assume you can install any NVMe drive you want.

The Samsung 970 worked for the other forum member with the same model as yours, so I would have to think it would work just as well in yours.

Crucial and Western Digital also make very good NVMe drives.

Ok. Thanks for your help.

I did install WD Black 500GB NVME M.2 but it's not being detected. Did I do something wrong ? or it's not compatible ? and I can go only with SAMSUNG ?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Madhav

Unplug / Plug-in worked for me too !

I too was sure about the fixing at the right place but, as you mentioned again I just unplugged it followed by Pluged it and restart of the system worked for me.

Thanks a ton !

Thanks,

Madhav
