M2 SSD Identification

Hello, I want to purchase M2 SSD and insert in my laptop. Please see attached picture and guide which brand and memory would ft inside. I looked in the manual and it states, Solid State Drive Board - 924992-001 & Solid State Drive Bracket - 924981-001.  I am not an IT Guy, so any help will be much appreciated. Hi:

According to the product number you posted, you have a HP 15-BS051od notebook.

Your notebook's M.2 slot supports SATA SSD's only, not NVMe.

Your notebook already has a M.2 slot for a SSD, so all you need to do is to buy a M.2 SATA SSD for it.

No need for the board or bracket.

It even looks like it has the hold down screw for the opposite end that doesn't go into the slot.

I recommend this SATA drive which provides the best performance for the price, in my opinion.

Hello. Many thanks for your reply. Really appreciate your advice on the below:- 

1) Currently boot time is very high & apps take a lot of time to open. Will purchasing this SSD increase speed considerably or will it be a very small difference?

2) After i purchase this, i need to clone windows to SSD?

3) I can purchase any space e.g 500 GB or 1TB or there is a limit to that?

4) I just need to insert this same as in the image you attached (thank you for that!) and not take DVD out, or make any other sort of change?

Running Windows from a SSD should increase performance considerably. 

Probably the best upgrade you can do.

A few years ago, I was skeptical that a SSD would make a big difference.   They were pretty expensive back then.

I was able to get a 120 GB Intel SSD on sale for I think $65 dollars (which of course would be a ripoff today).

I was amazed at the difference in performance.  Boot times were reduced to maybe 10-15 seconds, and everything was more responsive.

You have the option of clean installing W10, or cloning the hard drive by using a free utility such as Macrium Reflect Home.

If you temporarily disconnect the hard drive, you can also use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB installation flash drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

You should have no problem installing a M.2 SATA SSD up to 2 TB.

One note...if you plan to use the hard drive for storage, you will need to remove Windows from it, or the notebook will always want to boot from the 2.5" drive first and not the SSD.

Yes, as you see your picture, you can remove the hold down screw,  insert the SSD in the slot, and secure the SSD with the hold down screw.

What I don't know is...would it be better to place the SSD over or under those ribbon cables?

You'll have to figure out what works best.

Yes, that is the drive.

Can you get it on Amazon?  It's a bit cheaper there.

Regarding boot, off course i would want windows to boot from SSD so its faster, right? So if yes, then i will have to remove windows from hard drive and then install on SSD? So the best way is to use use the HP cloud recovery tool?

You're very welcome. 

Whether you clone the drive or use the cloud recovery tool,  that's up to you. 

If you have no problem reinstalling your files and any software you installed after you bought the notebook, I would use the cloud recovery tool.
