My system has the Core i3-3130m and want to upgrade to the fastest chip it can take.... Would the i7-3632qm work on this motherboard?

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you check the service and Maintenance Guide for the supported list of processors?
Let me keep you posted that the processor i7-3632qm is not supported b the computer’s motherboard.
- Product specs of the computer: http://hp.care/2uxDvpg
- Service and maintenance manual link: http://hp.care/2sDcjIj please check page# 97 for the supported list of processors with their related part numbers.
- The best upgrade for this notebook would be Intel Core i5 3230M processor (2.60-GHz 3.0-MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W) part number is 711903-002.
- Please contact the HP part store via this link: http://hp.care/2rQLe1b and select the country and follow the on-screen instructions. You might get a phone number to call them also.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
