Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to try and squeeze the most out of my old laptop by at least upgrading RAM

Crucial memory guarantees that their compatible  8 GB total installed memory will work in your notebook. See the link in tht line below

Crucial memory guarantees it, it will work.

 

It is considered best practice to install memory as a pair  of identical 4 Gb modules or a single memory module

As per the Service Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02666786, the Max RAM for this Notebook is 4 GB

I don't think that's the service manual for dv5-1251nr because I can't see my processor(Core 2 Duo T6400), but I see you can put 8192mb total system memory on a 64bit system
