Hi:
Your notebook must have a Pentium or Celeron processor, because according to the Crucial memory report for your notebook, it has one memory slot and supports up to 1 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory.

That means you would have to remove the 4 GB memory chip and replace it with an 8 GB memory chip.
Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the memory upgrade info in chapter 1 and the memory removal and replacement procedure in chapter 6.

Open your notebook and check if you have 1 or 2 memory slots.

The old hand @Paul_Tikkanen was faster again. Sorry, I have not seen that you have already answered. I was still writing... Thanks for your explanation and help 😊
At least we complemented each other...

I removed the cover, there are 2 memory slots in the laptop, in 1 slot there is a 4 GB module. AIDA64 shows that the maximum amount of memory is 16 GB. If I take this module out and install 2 x 8gb modules will the laptop work?

I checked bios revision history, nothing new about memory.
- You should follow the HP service manual, so maximum 8 GB.
- ( You could try 2x 8GB, but there is no guarantee that it will work )

Yes, that particular Pentium processor will support 2 x 8 GB of memory.

But the Pentium N3540 that some of the 15-ac0xx notebooks come with will not and there is only one memory slot for those models,
That means the Crucial memory report is incorrect for your exact model.
