Example: Pavilion dv4-1117nr
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have tried to utilize the HP’s automated Virtual Agent for my HP Pavilion dv4-1117nr Entertainment Notebook PC (product #: FR925UA#ABA / O.S.: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit Service Pack 1) to try and find out what the recommended maximum amount of RAM/memory i can install is. I currently have a total of 4 gigs (2 gig/ slot). Every time i have tried using the HP's automated support it asks for my serial and product # and when i put in the product number, it says it is not a good number. Can someone simply tell me what is the maximum amount i can install. I would love to put in two 4 gigs if possible. But if anything more than the two 2 gigs is not do-able, then i would just be wasting my money. I realize what I have is outdated, but it serves my needs and money is tight.

Probably your machine is too old, I can't even find its specs but from the following link

    http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=FR925UA

it has

  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5800 - 2.0GHz (Merom-MV, 800MHz front side bus, 2MB total Level-2 cache, socket Micro-FCPGA, 35W TDP, 65nm)
  • 2GB, 800MHz, 200-pin, PC2-6400, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)

It supports 4GB max

By the way, you are running 32bit Operating system on it. Anything over 4GB is not addressable.

Regards.
