OMEN by HP - 15t-dc000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello there,

I'm trying to confirm the maximum amount of memory I can install in my HP OMEN 15 (product number: 3NS58AV). I had 16gb (2x 8gb) in there, tried to install 32gb (2x 16gb), but the system only recognized it as two 8gb sticks.

I'm wondering if I have the wrong pair of sticks (looks like other people have had the same issue with this vendor) or the laptop doesn't support more than two 8gb sticks.

Thanks!

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of the maintenance and service guide on your notebook's support page, the model series is supposed to support 2 x 16 GB of memory.

OMEN by HP - 15t-dc000 CTO Manuals | HP® Customer Support

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

If the Windows report also indicates 2 x 16 GB is the max, then perhaps you installed incompatible memory.

If you bought performance memory with different timings (CL speed) than the standard memory has for the speed, that may be the problem.

You may want to try the standard compatible Crucial memory chips for your notebook:
