HP Laptop 15 - FD1180TU
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi All.

I've managed to narrow down my laptop search to HP Laptop 15 - fd1180TU which out of the box comes with 8gb memory and I'm struggling to find anywhere if that is upgradeable or soldered into the motherboard. Even Crucial doesn't have the model in their system (closest I could find was fd1097TU) and it's a DDR5-5600 1x 8gb. Does anyone know if I can replace that with at least 16 or preferably 32gig or if there is an additional slot to add another 8gig?

Thanks in advance.

Abhinav

@AbhinavS27,

Your model comes with an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H processor.

According to HP specs for 15-fd1000 series, your model supports 32 GB (2x16 GB) DDR5 5600 memory.

HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd1000 series specifications | HP® Support

You can remove the 8 GB RAM and install 2-16 GB DDR5 5600 modules.

So I went ahead and purchased 2x 16gb sticks. Installed and for the first few minutes it worked fine...then it shut down and when trying to restart the CAPS key would flash 3 and then 2 quick ones. Googling said its a Memory issue. Tried both slots, swapped sticks and then left only 1 stick in as it would work with 16gb. Raised HP case and i'm told while the name suggests its 1xxx series, the documentation all states its FD0xxx series but none of the processors on the HP document match my Ultra processor but my computer can only take a max of 16gb. While 16 is fine, but I guess i was hoping for the greatest and fastest but I don't know who or what to believe. Its decent config but flimsy laptop.

Hey AbhinavS27, have you updated all drivers and BIOS and tried the 32GB RAM again yet?

I bought the same laptop a few days ago and was planning on doing the same as you, but have been waiting for HP support to come back with answers that make sense. I am a little frustrated and annoyed with the responses I have been getting from them thus far. First they sent me documentation that weren't related to the FD1180TU at all. It seems it's for the 15-fd0xxx series (https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_7525191_en-US-1.pdf)
When I raised the fact that it wasn't this laptop's documentation they had to go back to the technical team. This morning I got a message contradicting iteself with every sentence, leaving me more confused than anything else. It was suggested to look at N38627-005 SODIMM 16GB DDR5 5600 1.1v for a RAM upgrade but it sounds like only 1 slot can be used if I understand HP's support representitive correctly with all the confusion. I supplied some screenshots and https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/ish_9868351-9868447-16 asking for clarity. Windows task manager shows 1 of 2 slots being used currently which suggests it would pick up the second slot. Once again I'm waiting for a response from the technical team. It seems this model has been very poorly documented and even the tech team don't have the full answer.
Eager to see (and hoping a BIOS/Driver update) resolves the issue and we can get the suggested 32 GB upgrade as per the FD1180TU spec sheet.
