The advice for upgrade the memory was super!  Like Paul_Tikkanen said: I bought a 16GB, installed it and at boot up, the computer shows 24gb of memory.  I am going to replace the 8gb to complete the upgrade at 32 gb of RAM.

Storage:  The computer came with 1 HHD: 1 TB, I add a 219 SSD, primary boot option.  Only 92 GB left.  Can I replace it by a bigger SSD: 500 GB + (Maximum combination for storage?  I want to keep the HDD

Hi:

Glad your notebook's memory upgrade project was successful.

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that HP offered NVMe SSD's up to 512 GB and that is just what they offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.

So, if you want to upgrade to a 500 GB NVMe SSD, that should be fine.

If you want SSD recommendations...these would be the two I would go for...

1st choice:

Amazon.com: Samsung Electronics (MZ-V8V500B/AM) 980 SSD 500GB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid St...

2nd choice--and at a very good price to boot.

Amazon.com: Western Digital 500GB WD Blue SN570 NVMe Internal Solid State Drive SSD - Gen3 x4 PCIe 8...

Thanks.  I am going to check the size of the one I have before I make the choice.  Last time, the M.2 NVMe was not working

You're very welcome.

That's interesting in that the manual indicates that NVME SSD's are supported.

I am thinking HP community to upgrade the memory to 32GB of RAM.  I have received advice about upgrade for 256 GB SSD to 500 GB.   The advice was to buy Samsung SDD980.  I was going to clone the 256GB.  I bought an enclosure for the new one.  Input and plug in to USB. The laptop cannot see it.

Please advise.

Hi:

Did you buy the right enclosure?

You need to buy one that supports NVMe SSD's and works from a USB 3.1 type C port.

Amazon.com: Sabrent USB 3.2 Type-C Tool-Free Enclosure for M.2 PCIe NVMe and SATA SSDs (EC-SNVE) : E...

Some only support SATA.

You may also have to initialize the drive in the Windows disk management utility so the drive can be seen.

You may also want to start a new post on the subject.

If it were me, I would have used the HP cloud recovery tool and used that to reinstall W10 on the new SSD installed in place of the old one.  The cloud recovery tool is used to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook on the new drive.

Thanks. The sabrent enclosure is great. I mounted the SSD inside.  I download the app "Acronis for sabrent" and proceed to clone the the old SSD.  After cloniing, using disk management, because I could not see it in file explorer

Old SSD:

Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Basic Data Partition)

New SSD:

Healthy (Basic Data Partition)

Is the new one bootable?  Why it did not show in file explorer

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question.

I always either clean install Windows on new drives or use recovery media to install Windows on new drives.

I did some research.  To make the new drive bootable, we have to install it in the laptop.  The old one should be in enclosure.  I have already created a bootable media, using Acroinis, which will be used to start the process...

I will update you tonight when completed.

Replacing a 256 GB SSD by a 500 GB SSD

I installed the new one in my Laptop, and put the old one in the Sabrent enclosure.  Boot from the USB media..  I cloned the old SSD.  I removed USB and Enclosure.  Reboot the Computer.  Everything went well.  Upgrade to 32GB memory and SSD 500 GB.  Still keep the 1TB HDD that came with the computer.
