Hi everyone, I have an HP Pavilion 17-e116dx and it currently has 4GB of memory - 4GB DDR3L SDRAM (1 DIMM).
According to the specs it can support a max memory of 8GB and has 2 memory slots. I wanted to add another 4GB of memory and I found this:
Crucial 4GB Single DDR3/DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) Unbuffered SODIMM 204-Pin Memory - CT51264BF160BJ
can anyone tell me if it is compatible with the existing 4GB memory DIMM? or do I have to buy a pair of new 4GB memory DIMM
thanks,

Hi:
Below is the link to the Crucial memory report for your notebook.

Check the 4 GB memory part numbers they list as compatible and if the one you posted is any one of those, you should be fine buying the one chip.

Thank you for the quick response!
I did look it up on Crucial's website and it is compatible with the laptop, I was wondering if it is ok to have 2 different DIMM chips, one from HP and one from Crucial, if they will function well together.
does that make sense?

You're very welcome.
You'll get varying opinions on that.
If I only need to add one chip, I always just buy one and never had an issue in desktop or notebook PC's with memory chips from different manufacturers.
Some folks have had problems doing that.
So, IMHO, there is no right or wrong answer.
