My notebook has pre-installed 2gb DDR3 ram on it , now I have installed fresh memory of 4gb DDR3 ram into into as it supports memory upto 8gb . However after successfully installing ram on my notebook , under system properties it displays installed ram 6gb and usable 2.26gb ... Is it okay or the usable memory can be increased. Kindly guide

Hi:

 

That seems a little low to me, but there is only one way to see if you can increase the usable memory...

 

Run the MSConfig utility.

 

After the utility opens, click on the  Boot tab, Advanced Options, there may be a tick in the box next to Maximum memory.

 

If there is, uncheck that box, and restart the PC.

 

Once removed and the change applied, Windows should recognize most of the Ram ( minus the reserved ) after restarting.
