The microphone connector is one of those that are disconnected if the entire display is removed.
It and likely the camera connectors plug into the system board towards the rear portion.
You could open the base of the notebook and reinsert the connectors which come from the display to the system board.
It is possible that one of the connectors was inadvertently jostled loose.
I will take a look in the HP support section to find remove and replace part videos to assist you.
Battery replacement video. Take a look at all visible connectors to make certain the insertion lines match up with the appropriate header on the system board.
Since the battery was the only item replaced, it is likely that somewhere in the area that was opened up is where you will find a connector or flat ZIF ribbon cable that isn't quite seated.
I will edit this shortly when I have the video link.

OK, I used that video when I replaced the battery. After removing the cover again I found nothing loose. The connectors going to the display were all good as far as I can see. So, I still have the problem. I guess the microphone or systemboard are bad. Thanks for your help.

Ok.
In that case, there is a probable hardware failure or actual physical disconnection in the circuit.
A workaround to resolve this without replacing the hardware would be to use an external microphone.
I use one for my desktop to achieve better fidelity.
