Zoom tells me I have no microphone. The diagnostics tell me my microphone is disconnected. Camera works fine. All software is current. How do I verify the status of the microphone? Where is the mic located on this model laptop. I see nothing near the camera.

Ok.
In that case, there is a probable hardware failure or actual physical disconnection in the circuit.
A workaround to resolve this without replacing the hardware would be to use an external microphone.
I use one for my desktop to achieve better fidelity.

Open Zoom and then open the settings to select audio speaker and microphone.
Test the settings. You should see movement at the microphone level if the settings are correct.

For your laptop, the microphones are located as in the image below.
Check the System-> Sound settings in Windows 11
If you don't see any options, type recording audio troubleshooter in the search box and click on the Next in the troubleshooter that appears. Let us know what the test results are.

Looking at "Input" it shows "Choose a device for speaking or recording". Then is shows "No input devices found"!
My screen is an all glass touch screen. You can see the camara and the camera light thru the glass. However there is no evidence of a microphone or a hole in the glass in that area or anywhere on the screen.
The HP microphone diagnostic shows "The microphone is unplugged".
The speaker diagnostic works fine.

Run the playing audio troubleshooter to find and fix software issues relating to playing sound.
Type in audio troubleshooting in the search box to find that troubleshooter.

The microphones are located in the display on opposite sides of the webcam.
See a post I made a few days back.
Was there a disassembly of your laptop recently for an upgrade of any sort and afterwards the microphone issue began?
If there was, something was left unplugged.

Nothing recent. The battery was replaced six months ago but the microphone was not involved. It has worked for 5 1/2 months since the battery was replaced. Also, the touchscreen is all glass with no openings. There are no holes near the camera or anyplace else on the glass screen. The camera shows through the glass, no opening. The battery is under the keyboard, not near the camera. I will remove the back and search for a microphone connector. I was just trying to narrow down the search area.
