HP Notebook 17-y002na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

It may sound like a stupid question, but what exactly is the Model Name of my HP Notebook. Someone recently asked me, and I had to say it was 'Anonymous'.  It has a Product Number F0F90EA#ABU, but no obvious model/family name. I have seen several suggestions on the web that it might be an "HP Pavilion Notebook 17-y002na".

Is that true?  If so, why is it apparently the model that dare not speak its name?

Any ideas out there?

The "HP Notebook" series is mentioned in this document:

Which HP Laptop Is Right For You?

"Named" Series is part marketing and part an indicator of the performance level that can be expected from the computer.  "Plain" HP Notebooks are nice computers that are "just right" for many consumers.

The Product Number of your system identifies the computer as:

HP Notebook - 17-y002na (ENERGY STAR)

Thanks for your response. I think the main clue to the usefulness of your reply is the phrase :-

I was a computer professional for 30+ years as Programmer, Analyst, Consultant, but never had much time for the Marketing Department, and its devious way with words. If I interpret the above quote correctly, there might be a 'base model', a faster model, and a super-turbo-nutter-xxxxxxx model, maybe more. Same basic chassis, but more CPU, HDD, RAM, etc. etc.

The one I have is the plain vanilla utility version, hence not even deserving of a model family name.

That's OK by me, I was really interested in a low-cost 17" laptop for eyesight reasons, and I'm quite happy with what I got for the price. (Direct from HP). For serious work, I use a quad-core beast of a desktop.

You are welcome.

Your computer has a family name:  HP

We have a variety of computers on which the capabilities vary from the "standard" to the high-end "kick 'em in the shorts" super-turbo-nutter-xxxxxxx model .  Those that are not hand-built are all purchased from the HP Store.  Smiling.

Nothing wrong with "plain vanilla" -- this is the one you take on travel, to the local coffee shop, or to a friend's house.

Here's to staying on the "right side of the dirt".  :generic:
