Microsoft Windows 11

My mouse is acting like it is possessed. It does everything it's not supposed to do. When I left click my mouse it will highlight text, bring up the context menu, open a new web page, but will not open the selected file or place the cursor where I want it to be.,. And when I move it around the screen, wherever the pointer stops a context menu pops up without me clicking. It's very difficult to  drag and drop a file. And I have to click 10-15 times to get a file to open. I've already tried the command prompts "sfc /scannow", DISM  /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, and still the problem persists. I've run Bitdefender virus scans and nothing is found.. I am hoping one of the experts here can help with a solution. Thank you.

Best,

Tom

Hi @IMTMR,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop.

Kindly refer to the steps on this link to Perform component tests for the touchpad. (If it fails there is an issue with the hardware)

Please install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Also, refer to the steps on this link to update the BIOS, and let me know if that fixes the issue.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
